The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts houses one of the world’s most extensive and rare archival collections. It houses a staggering nine million items, including historic recordings, videotapes, manuscripts, correspondence, sheet music, designs, press clippings, programs, posters, and photographs.
Security Management Systems was contracted to install an integrated system including video cameras, access control, and alarm monitoring. The system architecture is supported with a system server located in the security control room, where 45 surveillance cameras are viewed and recorded.
Security workstation and surveillance monitors are located at the main entrance for after-hours monitoring and four local surveillance cameras are situated at librarian collection desks. The system has 20 proximity card readers which communicate over the library LAN. This SMS solution has become the standard for future security applications throughout the library system.
